Ashni Releases Sophomore EP:
”Who I Dreamed Of”
“Who I Dreamed Of” is a collection of three songs that explore lessons inherited from generations
of women on love, shame, power, and autonomy. Through evocative and transcendent songwriting, Ashni invites the listener to reflect on how we connect and disconnect from our bodies, our selves, and one other.
Ashni made her headlining debut at Joe’s Pub in support of “Who I Dreamed Of”
on March 25, 2022.

”Recalling a sense of Bjork with her vocal cadence and string-plucked arrangements…”
”The lilting rhythms bunch into a resounding dhol that would get anyone moving… and hopefully, thinking as well." - Rolling Stone India

Ashni’s relationship with the stage began with classical North Indian dance, Kathak, and western classical piano. A first-generation Indian American, she grew up absorbing the voices of both Hindustani classical and jazz music that were often floating around her childhood home. From these roots, she incorporates her love for pop, folk, and R&B. Her work meditates on the relationships we build with the self, others, and community.
Ashni has performed at Joe's Pub, National Sawdust, Music Hall of Williamsburg, WNYC's The Greene Space, Rough Trade, and more. She is a member of Treya Lam's trio and the Resistance Revival Chorus. Her music has been featured on Spotify's Women of Jazz playlist, Bitch Media's Podcast: Growing Up Immigrant, and the acclaimed, Emmy-nominated web series Brown Girls. Forthcoming work includes a song on “How To Cure A Ghost: The Album,” songs made from Fariha Roisin’s poetry, led by Ganavya Doraiswamy.
